Paint Disposal – New York City

Because paint can be a toxic material, it is important to recycle what we can. Fortunately, there are many local charitable organizations that will accept paint donations to use for projects such as improving public schools, community centers or low-income homes. Not only can you recycle your old paint, but you can also purchase recycled and eco-friendly paint at various retail stores.

New York Resources for Paint Recycling

  • Recycle any metal paint cans with your other metal recycling.

  • Bring leftover paint to a NYC Department of Sanitation Drop-Off Site. New York City residents can bring up to five gallons of latex paint per visit.

  • Build It Green! NYC accepts paint and other construction material donations.

  • Materials for the Arts redistributed recycled paint to non-profit arts and culture programs.

  • NY WasteMatch - sponsored by the NYC Department of Sanitation.

  • Habitat for Humanity
