High Efficiency Silicon Thin Film
 

MIT researchers announced that by texturing the surface of amorphous silicon and using thinner wires, they were able to raise the efficiency of thin film cells to 19.5 percent, comparable to that of conventional crystalline silicon cells. They estimated that cells based on this process would cost about $1.30 per watt.
