Dusty Miller (Senecio Cineraria)
By Bill Marken & The National Gardening Association

Several plants go by the name dusty miller. This particular one is the annual grown for its handsome silvery gray leaves — its yellow flowers are fairly worthless in comparison. These plants grow about a foot tall and become taller and almost permanent in mild-winter climates.

Use them to edge borders or in containers as a contrast with bright flowers, such as geraniums and petunias. Plant transplants in spring, after any danger of frost, in full sun, 8 inches apart. Cut off flowers as soon as you see them.

If you can’t find a dusty miller called Senecio cineraria, look for it as Cineraria maritima. Or look for Centaurea cineraria, a related annual that’s also called dusty miller.
