Cigar Plant, or Firecracker Plant (Cuphea Ignea)
By Bill Marken & The National Gardening Association

This plant’s flowers are tubular, about 3/4-inch long, and bright red with a black ring (the “cigar’s” ashes?) at one end. The plants themselves grow about a foot tall.

Set out transplants in full sun or part shade in the spring, when the weather and soil have warmed and the danger of frost has passed.

Grow this plant as a curiosity or conversation piece in a pot or hanging basket, or at the front of a border.
