Chinese Lantern (Physalis Alkekengi)
By Bill Marken & The National Gardening Association

Grow this plant to witness the bright orange, papery 2-inch “lanterns” (actually fruits) that appear in late summer. Use these Chinese lanterns to make striking arrangements all winter.

Plants grow up to 2 feet tall. In spring, after the danger of frost passes, sow these seeds directly in the ground in full sun. To use this plant for dried arrangements, wait until the lanterns turn color and the plants start to dry up. Pull up the entire plant by its roots and hang it upside-down in a cool, dry spot.
