Hot Candied Walnuts
By Jeff Cox

Candied walnuts are best when they have a little spicy heat to them, which this recipe provides. They’re great in salads.

SERVINGS

Makes about 2 dozen candied walnut halves

INGREDIENTS

1 cup walnut halves

1/4 cup sugar

1/4 teaspoon cayenne

1/8 teaspoon salt

 PREPARATION

Place a large skillet over medium heat and when it’s hot, add the walnuts, sugar, cayenne, and salt. Shake the skillet constantly until the sugar melts and the walnuts are thoroughly coated, 3 to 5 minutes. Pour the mixture onto a greased cookie sheet and set it aside to cool. When the mixture has cooled completely, store in a tightly covered jar.
