Concrete Floors in Your Home
By Eric Corey Freed

Sometimes you don’t need to install any floor at all. Leaving the concrete slab exposed is a great way to save money on additional flooring. Generally, your contractor will take more care in finishing concrete that will remain exposed. In addition, numerous finishing options — from stains to pigments to acid etching — offer a wide variety of design flexibility.

Tip: In order to control cracking, a small joint is cut into the concrete every 20 feet or so. You can arrange these cuts, called control joints, in interesting patterns and angles for more visual interest.
