Individual Graywater Systems
By Eric Corey Freed

Because of the complicated permitting and installation issues surrounding whole-house graywater systems, some clever individual graywater systems are now available.

Collecting the graywater from just one sink and diverting it to just one toilet, products such as the Aqus from Watersaver Technologies (http://www.watersavertech.com) are a simple, cost-effective way to bring graywater into your home. Priced at under $200, such systems can be added to an existing bathroom by a plumber in about an hour without requiring a special building permit.

Pushing this idea even further, all-in-one units, such as the one from Envirolet (http://www.envirolet.com ), combine a sink on top of a toilet. The soapy water from the sink is stored in the toilet tank just below it. Not only do these systems save water (because they’re a sink and toilet in one), but they also save space.
