Hydrogen Fuel Cells
By Eric Corey Freed

A hydrogen fuel cell is a device that converts the chemical energy stored in oxygen and hydrogen into electrical energy. This electrochemical reaction combines the hydrogen with oxygen in the air. The only thing it gives off is the combination of the two, also known as water. A hydrogen fuel cell located in your basement could produce energy and drinking water for everyone in the building.

Hydrogen fuel cells are still, as of this writing, a new technology and not widely available in the United States. Japan has been experimenting with fuel cells for homes with great success. By 2020, you’ll be seeing more of these.
