Most carbon footprint calculators use similar criteria to estimate your consumption. Where you live (geography), size of household, number of cars, miles driven, general household appliance / electricity usage, amount of travel, etc. Usually not super-precise but gives you a general idea. The best ones are ones that tend to put your results into some sort of context that makes sense. Just outputting a number in terms of tons of CO2 produced isn't really relative for most people. A simple google search will link you to several calculators that are all pretty similar.
