At the end of a long day of writing there is nothing I love more than sinking up to my chin into a hot bubble bath. But when I made the decision several years ago to ditch all of my non-green personal care products, my selection of bubbles and bath salts dwindled down to next to nothing.
After lots of research on the subject, I feel confident that I have identified the very best in eco-friendly bath products. These products are all free of parabens and other nasty ingredients that can leach into your skin and harm the environment, and all are made from sustainable botanical sources. And, of course, they are minimally packaged in recyclable containers.
So skip the products that feature synthetic scents and chemicals. Next time you take a soak, you’ll be cleaning up your body and your conscience all in one scrub.

EO Bubble Baths: I am a fool for lavender and EO’s French Lavender bubble bath takes me away to that special place. Made from real lavender and essential oil, the bubble bath has a slight purple tint, a reminder of all the good stuff inside.
EO’s Be Well bubble bath is another favorite. Made with eucalyptus and arnica oils, the bath does wonders on sore muscles when you have overdone it on the elliptical trainer. It is also wonderful to use when you have a stuffy nose.
EO’s bubble baths are all made with the company’s Coconut Oil Cleansing Complex, which is a gentle but richly foaming formula available, without any irritating sodium lauryl/laureth sulfates which means it is even gentle enough for kids.

Anti-Body Free Range Bath Fizzers: I am wild, I’ll admit it, and sometimes I like to shake it up in the tub and use something other than bubble bath. These egg-shaped bath fizzies come in a compostable egg carton, and smell like a million bucks. I’ve tried both the lemongrass and the lavender scents. The fizzers are also available in petal and patchouli scents. Anti-Body products are all 100 percent Fair Trade Certified and are never tested on animals.

Weleda Rosemary Invigorating Bath Milk: When I need a pick-me-up, I reach for Weleda’s Rosemary Invigorating Bath Milk, which contains the eye-opening essence of rosemary and little else. For use in the tub or shower, this creamy milk is free of foaming agents, synthetic emulsifiers and mineral oils, and truly does stimulate the senses while cleansing and softening skin. It is perfect for an early morning shower, or a leisurely bath before a night out on the town. Weleda Rosemary Invigorating Bath Milk is available through beautorium and retails for $20.

Queen Helene Organic Fair Trade Cocoa Butter Body Scrub: The Queen Helene Organic Fair Trade line embodies everything I love to see in a product: a healthy, high-quality product that is affordable and widely available. Perfect. I enjoy a good exfoliant to keep my skin soft and this one is terrific. The walnut powder isn’t as harsh as some apricot scrubs I’ve tried and the added Vitamin E leaves me feeling silky. And it smells good too.
Save Your World Organic Oils Bar Soap: Soap can be a bone of contention in my house. If it is too girly, my boyfriend won’t use it. But who wants to smell like a guy? We have compromised on soap with Save Your Skin’s Rainforest soap, which has a pleasant botanical smell but is macho enough that my man doesn’t feel like a sissy when he uses it. The soaps contain no lye or animal fats, and for every purchase Save Your World donates enough money to save one acre of rainforest for one year.

Hugo Naturals Body Lotion: After a bath moisturizing is a must and one of my favorite companies these days is Hugo Naturals, whose body lotion leaves me feeling like butter. I am currently using the Geranium scent, which is light and fresh and makes my boyfriend ask, “What smells so good?” every time I use it. The lotion comes in nine scents, including grapefruit and spearmint, as well as in unscented.

Simply Organic 5-Piece Travel Kit: Though hotel amenities like tiny soaps and shampoos are nice, when I travel I make it a point to bring my own healthy products rather than use the free ones that are full of chemicals. My favorite travel companion these days is the 5-Piece Travel Kit from Simply Organic.
The kit has everything you need for a week away, a bottle each of the Everyday Scalp Wash and Rinse, the Everyday Body Wash and the Everyday Lotion, as well as an organic lip balm and a tiny bar of oatmeal lavender soap. All of the products are FTA-regulation size and are packed in a super cute 100 percent unbleached cotton bag. The set retails for $10.

Can you do a piece on eco bug spray? I hate the chemicals but hate being eaten even more. Someone told me to use geranium oil…
Great idea! I’ll put one together soon!
