I recently attended the “Green Product Expo” in Times Square. Open only to the media, the expo showcased new, innovative, eco-inspired products of all kinds.
From cloth diapers to organic vodka, there were fun green products galore!
Here are some of my favorite eco-treats that I encountered at the Expo:
Green Girl Tote Bags: Unlike some other re-usable eco-bags, these totes are cute enough to be mistaken for a fashionable handbag. Green Girl’s stylish bags are lightweight-yet-sturdy, large without being bulky, and have a comfortable strap that stays put on your shoulder.
Offered in both a thicker canvas or a more lightweight cotton, the totes are reversible and machine-washable. And Green Girl gives back to the land by planting a tree for every tote they sell. Visit greengirlworld.com
“Pre-Seeded” Gift Wrap from Little Kay Gardens: Don’t toss your gift wrap — plant it! Little Kay Gardens gives you two gifts in one. Made from recycled, biodegradable paper, this attractive wrapping paper sprouts wild flowers when planted.
Simply take your used paper, sprinkle with a layer of top soil, and water daily until your plants sprout. Each package of paper comes with little planting instruction cards to attach to each gift. Genius. Visit www.littlekaygardens.com
Flush Puppies: Don’t know where to throw that bag of doggy doodie? Don’t want to add more plastic and waste to our landfills? Try Flush Puppies biodegradable, flushable doggie bags!
Simply scoop and flush in any standard toilet. Plastic bags can take up to 1000 years to decompose in landfill. These baggies break down in less than a minute, taking them a good, eco-conscious investment for the dog lover in your life. www.flushpuppies.com
Mode All-In-One Recycling Centers: Finally, someplace to put your recyclables (other than in a pile on the floor next to your trash can). These stylish cans look modern-yet-retro, sitting pretty next to the trash can in your kitchen.
They have separate compartments for paper, plastics & bottles, and cans (and can even crush your recyclables to make them more compact). Convenience and beauty, all-in-one. www.modeproducts.com
The Reinvented Cloth Diaper: 1-2 tons of soiled diapers end up in our landfills each year. Two diaper companies that caught my eye at the Expo were Maine Cloth Diaper Co and Bummis.
Taking the old idea of the cloth diaper but bringing it up to date, these companies provide washable cloths that are contained inside of a waterproof diaper over. You simply remove the soiled cloth insert and wash it, but the outer shell stays clean and dry.
This makes for easy clean up and re-diapering, and makes a big environmental impact by saving what would be all those pounds of diaper landfill. Plus, it’s economical – about $200 – 300 for 2 years verses $2000+ if you used disposable diapers. Visit maineclothdiaper.com or bummis.com.
Save Your World Beauty Products: Launched under the brands Save Your Skin, Save Your Body, Save Your Hair, Save Your Lips, these beauty products use organic ingredients harvested through fair trade practices.
All raw materials are biodegradable, the company shuns animal testing, the packaging is made of recycled or recyclable materials, and the kicker: For every product that you buy from them, you save one acre of a rain forest for a year.
The products are paraben-free and don’t contain sodium lauryl sulfate. Get their products at Whole Foods or saveyourworld.com

I’m really interested in the cloth diapers. I just don’t understand how/where you clean the poo?? Is it washed down a sink or something?
Overall, looks like it was a great look into green products. I’d like to see more product reviews on this site.
We use cloth diapers. We just dump the poo in the toilet and then wash all the diapers together in a hot wash load.
It is good that the packaging is made of recycled or recyclable materialsGreen Certification
