It’s the time of year when I take stock and think about taking on another around of life changes. Last year, I decided to simplify my life and make more time for myself. On reflection, I think that worked out fairly well. I started by purging ten boxes of crap from my tiny condo. And, I cut out unnecessary chores to make more time for reading and hot baths.
This year, I’ve decided that my general theme should be “Out with the bad, in with the good!” Feel free to join me. All you need to do is choose ONE thing to quit and ONE thing to start. I’m sure I could quit or start ten new things, but focusing on just one actually gives me a chance at success.
First, I listed some options for “Out with the bad.” Everyone has a bad habit or two to purge: Excess shopping, smoking, drinking, eating, driving, junk food, or crap TV. Now would be a fine time to consider your options, choose one and quit. I plan on curbing my commercial television watching. I’ve seen enough commercials for the “Baby come back” Swiffer to last a lifetime. I usually post a big reminder to myself on the fridge to keep me on target all year long.
I also want to add something good in 2009. I thought about adding fitness, healthy eating, organization or new learn. If I choose to take a Karate class, I could kill two birds with one stone by adding fitness and new learning! I haven’t decided yet, but I’m leaning toward fitness. I’m sure I’m being influenced by the fact that this year I turn the big 4-0 and the girls are planning a huge blowout. I’ll have an opportunity to show off my new, flat tummy.
