The following questions are meant to raise some of your conscious and unconscious fears.

Answer these questions as honestly as you can, expressing all of your thoughts and concerns until you can clearly state exactly what you are afraid of.

Look for common themes among your answers. For example, if you have issues with trust in general, you need to look at how lack of trust manifests in your own life, as well as the particular issues of trust surrounding your pregnancy.

Birth Plan - Process of Reflection

The physical aspects of pregnancy and childbirth are intimately connected to your mental state.

By examining yourself thoroughly and performing an introspective study of your true needs and wants, you will be able to uncover what is working and not working about your life, and discover what issues may need to be healed.

This careful examination is the power of reflection. By examining yourself this way, you can lay to rest specific fears or concerns that may be holding you back emotionally or affecting you physically. You will begin to understand what limits you have set for yourself, either consciously or unconsciously, and you can work on correcting negative thoughts that are standing in your way.

The process of reflection begins with identifying your current perspective, or context. …read more of Birth Plan - Process of Reflection here

Birth Plan – Where To Start

By Denise Spatafora

To begin, dealing with stress is an excellent example of how the mind - body connection works.

If you are in a demanding job or relationship, if you feel anxious and frazzled all the time, or if you always spur yourself on to accomplish more, even when you are tired, the resulting stress will eventually cause disease, or, as I like to think of it,  “ dis-ease,”  in your body.

It is well documented that stress can lead to a host of physical ailments, including heart attack, high blood pressure, weight gain, and obesity. On the other hand, living with chronic or persistent pain or dwelling on and being stressed about your weight can cause clinical depression. …read more of Birth Plan – Where To Start here

A “Birth Plan” can be a powerful tool to clarify for yourself what you need and want as well as align your birthing team.  There are many steps before writing this plan:

  • Understanding your current context for birth.
  • What it would be to create the context for your birth.
  • Become educated about the choices for what kind of birth is right for you.
  • Your practitioner.
  • Where you want to give birth.
  • Conversations you are having or have had consistent with your “designed context for your birth”
  • How do you emotionally and mentally prepare yourself and deal with your fears and concerns. …read more of Preparing for Birth Pt. 1 here

60 Days of Insanity Caused Clarity. Designing your “New Year”

In October, a few days before my birthday, I was evaluating what I really wanted for myself in this new year, my “personal new years” celebration, the day of my birth.

I declared that I was going to make sure this was the best year of my life so far. As I began to design this, I looked at everything I wanted and all that was having me suffer; all the places in my life where I was not proud of myself. Not based on what anyone else thought, but where I was being sloppy, resigned and not creating what I wanted. One area of suffering that was the loudest was my health and weight.

We all like to look good but just as important for me was feeling good, feeling strong, feeling vital. I was a trained competitive ice skater, ran the NYC marathon, gave birth to my children at home and was always very physical. I am best when my body, mind and heart are aligned. I knew bringing discipline to this suffering would make a big difference for me. …read more of 60 Days of Insanity Caused Clarity. Designing your “New Year” here
