Who eats who in the Amazon?
The Rainforest Alliance recently teamed up with Stepping Stones Museum for Children and Ruckus Mobile Media to teach kids just that!
The Rainforest Survival Challenge is a mobile application devised specially for the iPad designed to educate children from 8 to 12 about the interconnection between plants and animals in the Amazon Rainforest
The Rainforest Alliance is a global nonprofit that for nearly 25 years has worked to promote forest conservation around the world.
The Rainforest Survival Challenge developed by Ruckus Media Mobile Group in collaboration with Stepping Stones Museum for Children and the Rainforest Alliance.
This exciting new iPad app is full of interesting and thought-provoking information about the native species that live in one of the Earth’s most fascinating and delicate ecosystems.
This is a game designed to appeal to kids and adults alike. While the specified 8 to 12 age range will certainly find this game engaging, I learned a lot playing this game and it was really very entertaining.
Players are dealt five species cards and play against the computer to create the best chance of surviving in the rainforest. Whoever has the most survivors, wins!
Along the way, the gamers learn about different rainforest animals and plants species and about the key environmental issues threatening this precious ecosystem.
Julianne Schrader, manager of the education program at the Rainforest Alliance commented, “The rainforest Alliance helps students of all ages understand the role that each one of us plays in biodiversity conservation. We are excited to use this new and innovative medium to introduce kids to the unique wildlife found in tropical forests.”
Rainforest Survival Challenge builds on the Rainforest Alliance’s extensive educational resources, such as free school curriculum for grades K through 8th grade, which provide complete lesson plans that meet all state and national learning standards.
By teaching kids about tropical rainforests and the fundamental environmental issues that threaten these delicate ecosystems, the Rainforest Alliance is empowering children to take action.
Rainforest Survival Challenge is a fun game on a mission, to inspire children to take the kind of action that will help preserve and protect the planet. For more fun kid’s games, activities and stories check out our Kid’s Corner!
The Rainforest Survival Challenge app is now available at Apple’s iTunes App Store for only $3.99. A portion of the proceeds from the sales will go to support education initiatives at the Rainforest Alliance and Stepping Stones Museum for Children.
